ABOUT US

The Wounded Veterans Polo Benefit is a private initiative to raise funds for rehabilitation programs for injured veterans in the Bay Area. The event is organized by the Commandery of St. Francis, the local unit of the Order of St. John, Knights Hospitaller, an all volunteer non-profit (501c3# 26-2543649). We are an organization that believes strongly in supporting our veterans in need. Many of us are veterans ourselves, who believe in helping those who have given so much to our country and have asked for nothing in return. We have no paid staff or directors and very little administrative overhead. This ensures that all event profits and all funds received as donations are passed through 100% to the carefully selected veterans’ rehabilitation programs.
Past beneficiaries include the following organizations:
Project Healing Waters teaches veterans to fly fish in Martinez and at the Golden Gate casting ponds and clubhouse. Experienced anglers then escort them on weekend outings to fish Northern California rivers and lakes.
Wooden Boats for Veterans uses wooden boat renovation and sailing as pathways for restoring health and well-being to veterans and their families. Learning to sail and saving wooden boats are outlets for coping with PTSD, and traumatic injuries.
Homeward Bound of Marin is building an affordable housing complex for veterans in Novato that will include on-site supportive services from the VA. The housing complex is currently under development, and broke ground in January 2023.
